My 30th Birthday

... was simple, fun, and meaningful.

First of all, I had three days off because of the Eid holidays, and I had a great time watching TV, watering Burnie (our plant), Skyping with Mama and Zoe and going to the gym with Fifi.

I also fried eggs - my first perfect ones.

Celebration-wise, there was none. But I did have dinner with Fifi on the eve of my birthday. Her gift was the laptop case I was eyeing at Bloomingdale's last month. I had never known Fifi to spend like a baws, so that was a big pleasant surprise! Thank, Layds!

On my birthday, I picked Liam up from work and we went to Meydan, where we had drinks at the Millenium Lounge and Shiba Bar, and had the best steak in the whole universe at Prime Steakhouse. It blew our minds.

We went home to watch more TV. I didn't have to wake up early the next day, and that was a big bonus.

I totally downplayed my turning 30. That's the way all seemingly scary things should be faced, I guess.

I don't really know if I as scared to turn 30 in the first place, but I guess that's what we read and see and hear.

One big shrug.

Quick Fixes for a Stubborn Tummy

Constipation is nothing to be ashamed of. It's normal. It happens to everyone.

It's the symptoms that are awfully embarrassing and can ruin your life.
Bloated? Not fitting into your dress on the day of your friend's wedding can make you a grumpy bridesmaid.
Belching at a romantic dinner can drive a potential mate away, and will crush your dreams of eventually becoming a bride yourself.
And since being clogged up is sometimes manifested through irritability, severe constipation will possibly drive your friends away, at which point you can say good bye to even becoming a bridesmaid.

Constipation ruins lives. So stop it with these tried and tested quick fixes that I swear by:

Isabgol seeds were first introduced to me by Sonia, my former executive producer at my old job and a very good friend of mine to date.

It works every time. Mix two heaping teaspoons of this stuff with lukewarm water and drink. The taste is not unpleasant, but it's no mojito either.
The texture is similar to that of raw sesame seeds, and it smells like plants.

Drink the concoction at night. Pinch you nose, close your eyes and imagine you are in the middle of a lush garden when chugging it down.

Wake up the next morning and reap the rewards in the toilet.
For months I walked past the yogurt section in the supermarket because I went dairy-free last February. That was my sacrifice for Lent. It turned out to be a brilliant thing for weight loss and overall health, but now I am opening my door (or gut) to one dairy product:

Fat-free yogurt. Fat-free, organic, with as little sugar as possible. It restores balance in the gut flora by releasing good bacteria or probitoics. It's very similar to Yakult, which has lactobacillus. But Yakult is way too sweet for me to have every day. Bad bacteria feed on sugar, so you don't want too much of it.  Onken's sugar content is negligible, and this big tub lasts days.

Have it with some Ryvitas or your favorite fruit.

Need I say more? Many are familiar with the benefits of green tea. I honestly thought it had no effect on me, but I kept drinking it anyway to keep me full and stop me snacking on butter biscuits and sea salt chips.

This Ramadan, I had to temporarily kick my 5-cups a day tea habit, and noticed a big difference.

It could be a psychological thing, it could be for real. But my digestive system seems to love green tea so I will keep drinking it.

Many people swear by this. And it does work if adopted as a morning ritual. Lemon and warm water is a healthy way to start the day. It supposedly eliminates toxins from the day before before they build up and make you sick. And it's loaded with Vitamin C.

Fifi, Sonia and Gwyneth Paltrow do it.

I sometimes forget to, mainly because we sometimes don't have lemons. Back home, where lemons are scarce and costly, I use calamansi. I love it. Drinking warm calamansi ale is never a chore for me.

Okay so there. Four natural, cheap and easy solutions to end constipation.

Yours truly,
The Poop Expert

IHYPE on IHOP

Yes, IHOP is coming to Dubai and I cannot wait.
I know, I can make waffles and pancakes and fry some eggs next to a pile of crispy bacon in the comfort of our kitchen.
But there's nothing like sitting back and watching a waiter balance a tray on which a big plate of lard, salt and sugar wobble nervously and walk to my table.
It's not having billions of dollars in an offshore bank account that makes you a king.
It's having someone make incredible breakfast for you without moving a single muscle.
And all for a few dirhams.

The downside? I will feel guilty immediately after I finish my plate.
Then I'll go on the treadmill and feel unworthy of being on a treadmill.
It's a sick cycle, my friend.

A sick, pancake-shaped cycle.

Heart-breaking story of a landslide survivor

I am not sure what I was doing wrong, but this video won't embed here.

But I felt compelled to share this, and so I appeal to you to simply click on the link.

A very personal, real and saddening account of a hard-working father who lost most of his children and grandchildren in a recent landslide in Commonwealth, Quezon City.

www.allaweb.com
My deepest gratitude to the author of this book, for writing about something that people have been doing since work environments started to exist..
But none of us have actually admitted to committing it.
So I guess the writer's just poo-ting it out there.

Celia Rodriguez and Trudis Liit

Crispy Pork Belly and Mashed Apples and Potatoes

Dripping with fat, oozing with flavor.
 Mashed apples and potatoes
 Heto na siya. Winner!
I got Fifi to eat pork! Dun na lang eh. Sukatan na eh.

I'm so happy! I tried to make crispy pork belly, and it was a complete success! My two favorite people in the whole universe, Liam and Fifi, also attested to my uncanny ability to turn a slab of pork into a delectable Anglo-Sino culinary masterpiece.

Homely, savory, flavorful and just aesthetically awesome.

The truth is, many Pinoys know how to cook this. But since my first time was a huge success and it was sooo much better than what I had expected, I am celebrating this like a victory that no one has ever enjoyed.

I asked them again and again if it was good, and their answer was a resounding yes! So I guess they were telling the truth and not trying to be nice. I have low kitchen self-esteem, but I believe that's gonna change soon.

Kidnap-A-Wifery

Hey guys!
Learned something new today.
In Kyrgyztan, it is acceptable for men to kidnap girls and make them their wives.
Men revived this practice rooted in pre-Soviet culture when the the union collapsed.

It is not only taken lightly. Celebrations ensue after a girl is kidnapped.
The girl's parents even show up as a sign that they are accepting the boy's "proposal".

Who would have thought?

Ramadan Around The World - Kerala | My Dubai My City

Ramadan Around The World - Kerala | My Dubai My City

This is a lovely episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the company!
Ahmed and Maryam were great, and so was the feast they prepared.

Help yourself to some self-help reading.

While my preferred literary genre of choice is autobiography or anything factual and informative, I do like to read some fiction. I find it therapeutic to ingrain made-up images in my mind a few minutes before I go to bed.

And then there are those rare times spent buying and reading self-help books. The whole thought of purchasing a book with the end goal of improving your personality or strengthen your character is not something to be embarrassed about. But it really depends on the book, what it wants to tell you, and why you're reading it in the first place.

Here are a few self-help books I once displayed proudly on my bedside table.

1. SKINNY BITCH. It's really a no-nonsense, tough-love guide to just being sensibly healthy. It's an easy read, no scientific jargon which I'm allergic to, and not preachy at all. It helped me realize that I was pumping my body with loads of unhealthy stuff. The authors use harsh language that would make a fat girl want to change her ways, or kill herself.

It's an amazing way to kick start a lifelong commitment to eating healthily, taking care of yourself and being in charge in the kitchen. Suddenly you want to use natural ingredients and whip up a great meal without all the oils and sugars and fats.

I read it back in 2009, and it made me skinny. I read it three years later, when I had stopped smoking and significantly reduced my dairy intake, and it helped me again. I will always revisit its pages.

2. EASY WAY TO STOP SMOKING. I read the first 75 pages of it, and realized there was nothing in it that could make me stop smoking. I knew smoking was disgusting. I knew it was a bad habit. I knew it could kill me. But I was addicted and I didn't know how to put down that cigarette. I don't think there are special methods used in this book. It's just complete common sense, and I wasn't ready to wrap my head around the actual act of quitting at the time I read it.

Many people - maybe in the millions - have read it and they swear by it. They quit successfully, and they rave about how the book changed their lives. That's great. But it didn't do anything for me.

Last year, three years after attempting to read this book, I quit smoking. I quit because I couldn't bare the thought of lighting up while many of my family members were suffering from illnesses. The least I could do was stay healthy for them. Yup. Cold turkey from the heart.

3. BOOSTING SELF ESTEEM FOR DUMMIES.  Lent to me my a friend who couldn't get over a break up that left his ego on the middle of Sheikz Zayed Road, repeatedly run over by Range Rovers.

He felt it necessary to share this with me, as I was on the crossroads of something in my life at that time.

I read the first few pages. It was like a book for sociology or psychology students. Lots of lists and exercises and Venn diagrams. It threatened to crush what was left of my self-esteem.

I realized that buying a dress, putting some make up on and a night out with the girls beat this book any day. And until now I apologize to myself for laying my hands on it.

4. SIMPLIFY AND LIVE THE GOOD LIFE. Did it help me? Ish. The jury is still out on this one.

I read this when I was still living in Manila and wondering what to do with my life. With a salary that didn't enable me to make plans for the future, and bad life priorities, I don't think I maximized the tips in this book.

Bo Sanchez is brilliant and has helped a lot of people. Maybe I should read the book again to really absorb what it says. It's a good time to sort my finances and think about how to live a modest lifestyle. I don't have much as it stands, but it's good to soul-search and look at every area of my life once in a while to see where I'm at.

He offers great ways to save money, nurture your spiritual life and take it easy. I'm sure we all get the message. And a printed version of it to serve as a reminder isn't a bad idea.

Self-help books are not a bad idea. Admitting that you need a bit of help and the will to make a change are a sign of genuine strength and great humility. If you open a book and you like what it says and it eventually helps you, that's awesome. If not, bin in, give it to someone else, or let it end up at a flea market, where it can potentially transform the happy buyer's life.

A must for dairy-free dieters...and wannabes like me!

I didn't think it was possible for the the universe to come up with such a brilliant invention.

People like me who try so hard to live a healthy life but are easily tempted by the demons of the food world deserve a break. And not by having a KitKat.

I came across this brand when I was getting provisions for the dinner party I was in charge of. I was going to make caramelized banana with vanilla ice cream.

This is what I ended up buying. Gluten, cholesterol and dairy free. No genetically modified ingredients. Made with real raspberries and soy milk.
Creamy, smooth, versatile. It sits perfectly on top of the caramelized banana, like it was in the original recipe. It's ice cream. Just not the sinful kind.

And our guests LOVED it. Bonus: It's easy on the pocket. It's not going to cost you an arm, but it'll preserve it by helping you avoid diabetes, a gross and fatal disease that sometimes causes people to get their aims amputated. Yes, I came up with that 360 degree insight.

Aaaaanyway, thank God for Swedish Glace!

A real face and budget stretcher

Finally!
A daytime moisturizer that glides on smoothly, offers ample sun protection, and doesn't grease up my face.
Magazines and websites always say that the best moisturizers are pricey and can only be bought from high-end stores. Well, I picked up L'Oreal Revitalift off the shelves of Waitrose and it's around 60 Dirhams. That's less than $15 and around Php650. Not bad for months of moisture and sun protection.
And it is proving to be the best moisturizer ever.
And believe me, I've tried loads.
Nu Skin was great, but too expensive.
Bioderma was greasy.
Yoko was too cheap not effective at all.
But Revitalift.... it is a revelation.
As I speak, it moisturizers my face and protects it from the sun, air conditioning and other external elements including evil spirits.
It's really a godsend.
Update on the Filipino dinner: It was perfect! My culinary blunders turned out to be blessings in disguise.
Looking forward to making more dinners!

SELECTIVE WHAT?

This article tells the story of a girl who has a very unusual phobia of veggies and all other foods good for her.

I love junk food and I gotta have it at times, but this is just ridiculous.

Selective Eating Disorder is just a sorry excuse for not trying hard enough.

Late bloomer

When you're a late bloomer in the kitchen, you're bound to go insane.
You've spent three decades of your life eating without having to cook, thanks to the maid and canned, fast and restaurant food.
You think you're not good enough to create something that people will find edible, let alone delicious.
You think you're useless and stupid for not being able to do a simple task that should be innate in women.
You feel insecure and assume every kitchen joke within your earshot is an attack against your culinary capabilities.
You want to be Nigella Lawson or Rachel Ray overnight, but there are so many basic techniques to learn before you can even create a half-decent dish!
You want to do it all without breaking a sweat, but by the time you're done cooking something, you're a mess.
You feel nervous every time you're asked to cook something.
But you do, because that's the only time you will actually learn.
And that's your chance to redeem yourself as a promising cook.
You scour the internet and go through cookbooks to find something that's simple to make but fancy enough to serve to guests on a special evening.
You buy ingredients and make sure they are fresh and the right kind.
And then you say a little prayer before you put that apron on, calling on God to help you pull this off.
And when your guests take that first bite, you hold your breath.

I'll be going through the exact same experience tomorrow.
It's going to shake - but not shatter - me.
And I'm going to be great.

I'm the baws.

In the kitchen. For an evening.
It's going to be great!
Last week Liam prepared an impressive British meal for our friends.
This week, I am in charge.
And there is only one thing on my mind right now:
I have to convince everyone at the dinner that Filipino food is not all that bad.
In fact, it is as savory and flavorful as the Southeast Asian cuisines they rave about.

Here' my menu:

1. Vegetable lumpia.
2. Chicken adobo
3. Banana cue with ice cream

Simple, homely, and tasty.

So help me God.

The only thing in my make up kit that makes me ugly

Got this pic from the Mac Cosmetics website.
I had acne last year around the time I had a part time job as a presenter.
Every weekend I wore heavy make up.
I had never used liquid foundation before, so I tried the one by Mac.
Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in NC 35.
It was a revelation. I loved it.
It was smooth and thick, so you only needed a dab to cover the whole face.
After a few weeks, my skin broke out and my face turned into an ugly piece of shiznit.
I read somewhere that liquid foundation tended to clog the pores and cause pimples.
But at that time, with so much going on in my life, it could have been anything.
I had hormonal imbalance due to a lot of stress.
I was an unhealthy eater.
And I didn't have enough sleep.
Now, just two days ago I hosted a wedding and used the Mac liquid funda again.
When I got home, I saw four spots threatening to grow into big pus-filled mountains of embarrassment.
Aha. Caught in the act, Mac!
I've been a Mac fan through and through, from the day I got my first pay check and could afford to buy the NC 35 pot concealer, all the way up to the present.
I have a great collection of make up products that include Mac powders, shadows, a primer and a few bottles of nail polish courtesy of Liam.
But the brand's liquid foundation ain't no friend of mine.

Now I'm faced with the task of finding a foundation that will match my skin tone, not irritate my skin, and glide on smoothly while giving maximum coverage.
It's not going to be easy, but I am hanging in there.

Alessandra De Rossi - Dream To Me

What a pleasant musical surprise from Alessandra de Rossi!
She's got spunk, talent and depth.
It's nice to play her songs while I work away at my desk.
They calm my nerves and inspire me to leave my desk and do something great.
Maybe I will.

COME DINE WITH US!

We are staying indoors all summer!

Several reasons:

1. It's very, very hot outside. The scalding glare of the sun could dehydrate us and give us skin cancer.
2. Very few places are open out of everyone's respect for the Holy Month of Ramadan.
3. Thanks to Come Dine With Me, Jamie's Food Revolution and Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, we have decided to go easy on the food delivery and up our game in the kitchen!

Every week we invite two guests and feed them.
We started last evening, and this was the menu:

Caerphilly pasties
Toad in the Hole
Deep fried Mars bars

It was perfect. Savory, sinful, and satisfying!
The deep fried Mars bars were not photographed out of shame.
Also because we ate them straight from the fryer.

Our modest dining table

 The king of the kitch
Caerphilly cheese with leeks and other things good for you

 Looking good! Parang empanada.

We added this tiny detail that made all the difference, aesthetically.
The Union Jack!

Served with spinach drizzled with olive oil and Worcester sauce.

Toad in the Hole. Sausages swimming in lard and cream until they rise and become one.
Savory food at its best.

JONALD AND TESS CELEBRATE THEIR 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Hey! I just met them, but this is crazy!
Jonald and Tess, nag silver wedding?

Sorry about that.
But it's true.
I can't believe Jonald and Tess celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 25.
They look so young.
Move over, botox and laser.
True love is still the best way to stay young and happy!
I had the privilege to host the wedding reception, and Fifi was there to take pics!
Love you Layds!

 Cake cutting slash fencing!
The understated, classy three-tier cake from Jumeirah Emirates Towers.

The couple still looked fresh and relaxed after a whole day of preparations and celebrations.

Denise and Denica Cabildo stole the show with their sweet rendition of Love Makes A Friend Be a Friend Like You. They can carry a tune, and harmonize too!

 The family that smiles together....

The family with their wacky friends!

A special song number by Gwen Goden, who performed TWICE at the event.

Myself and Sheila, the banquet manager at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, and the person who made sure that the ballroom was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the whole event took place smoothly.

When marimba rhythm starts to play...
The couple danced to one of their favorite songs, Sway.

I was very happy to have my picture taken with the couple on this stage.
It wasn't so much a stage as it was a set of a talk show.

Ramadan Around The World - Indonesia | My Dubai My City

I had a lot of fun having iftar with Isti and friends.
I also learned that Indonesia and the Philippines have similar languages.
It was a surprise knowing that they also call their wraps lumpia.

KERALA PICTURES

Thought I'd post pictures form our Kerala trip. Really miss going on a holiday and thinking of absolutely nothing. I've been working like a dawg and the only thing that keeps me going is the promise of a much-needed getaway in less than two months! For the meantime, I am going to have to look at these and maybe pack my suitcase in advance.

MY FIRST IFTAR THIS YEAR

I'm so excited to attend an Indonesian iftar tonight! I am meeting Isti, a lovely Indonesian lady who has lived in Dubai for years.

She's serving up a feast at sunset, and it's going to fresh, tasty and accompanied by stories from her and her guests.

I like nasi goreng and Liam likes beef rendang. Let's see if those two dishes will be part of her spread this evening.

I'll keep you posted!

This Ramadan is definitely my busiest ever.

I love it.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

I managed to have a great weekend, even though technically, I do not have weekends. I am required to work on Friday and Saturday, and have been doing this for over a month.

Fortunately, Liam and Fifi are the best. Liam and I had dinner on Thursday evening at Hoi An, a French-Vietnamese restaurant at the Shangrila Hotel in Dubai. French grape and Vietnamese cuisine mix very well, and it was worth getting out of the house at the end of a hot and tiring week.

We also managed to go to Ikea and Hyperpanda before the work week. Ikea has always been a happy place for me. I bought a bunch of little things for my house in Cubao last year at the Dubai Festival City branch, and it's nice that Mama, Zoe and Ate Joan are using them.

Fifi visited me on Saturday afternoon and we had a short coffee date at Costa downstairs. We listed down 18 things she should be doing when she turns 30. It was a fun activity and I can't wait to do my own list! We also hear mass in the evening and had Taza for dinner. Taza like KFC, only it's an Arabic brand, and it's supposedly healthier than the Coronel's chicken.

I ended my Saturday by watching a documentary about Gypsy fighting in the UK. It was a chilling account of how travelers settles scores by using their fists, and how they expect their sons to continue this barbaric tradition.

Well, that's my weekend non-weekend. Or my non-weekend weekend.

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

I dreamed last night that my whole family was running away from our grandfather, who happened to be Muammar Ghadafi. Grandpa Ghadafi was chasing us in the woods. Luckily, we managed to find a nice bungalow house where we locked ourselves in and kept safe until he broke the door and slipped his hand inside! Oh no.

And then I woke up. He was still dead, I was still in bed, and it was another day at work.

Whew.
I should have known by now that when I reach my lowest point, that's exactly where my climb to a better place begins. I have had that experience many many times and I've always panicked, sunk into depression, or thought negatively. Things have always ended up better than ever. And now, no matter how much I worry or think about the worst thing that could happen to me, the reality is, things are getting better for me, and if I don't appreciate that, I would be the biggest ingrate in the world.

Forward, always forward.

Filipinos among world's heaviest smokers

Filipinos among world's heaviest smokers

This news is no surprise at all. Cigarettes are available everywhere.
They're cheap, they're marketed as a must-have cool accessory when going out, and tobacco companies have become innovative.
Marlboros now come in all colors and lengths and thickness, depending on people's mood and ages and what they want the world to see them as.
A stick of Philip Morris is the only thing you can buy with two pesos, and it lasts a while, giving the tired jeepney driver a much needed mini-break.

I'm a quitter. I've been one for a year now, and it feels good!
I no longer need a fag fix every three hours.
I don't include them in my daily budget anymore.
My gums look healthier and my face brighter.
My skin just looks so much better, and I smell fresher!

Many say it's so easy to get back into the habit, but I promise never to do it again.
It's the worst thing I can do to myself, especially now that I am no longer 23 years old.
And every time I experience the little wonders of being a non-smoker, I let out a long, big sigh of relief.
I'm able to, thanks to my clean lungs!

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

We can't really have everything.
Otherwise we would be perfect and have achieved every objective we and the universe have set for us in life, and then it's time for us to die.
So it's all right to have challenges.
In fact, it's necessary.
Difficult, hair-pulling, make-or-break ones that will really push us to think what's important in our lives.
Money? Career? Love? Family? Religion? Fashion? Reputation?
And the list goes on.
And one of the things that determine that is a heart-attack moment.

I have had so many heart-attack moments.
Moments that compelled me to make the most difficult and life-changing decisions in my life.
And they were the moments that dramatically altered my life in ways deeper than any Chilean miner can dig.
And right now I am very close to making one.
It's eating up my brain, making my heart beat faster, firing up my ambition and reviving my passion for something I have always always loved doing.

But like any big event in one's life, I am faced with a big hurdle.
And I am aiming to get over it before the end of the day.
Literally, before sunset.
There is absolutely nothing I can do to slow down my heart beat or tell my thoughts to stand still.
This challenge is taking over me and giving me a kind of rush that I have not had in more than two years.
And you know what? That's a good sign.
So let me say a little prayer and get on with it.
Here goes....

CocoRosie - By your side

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

I made apple crumble in maple syrup the other day, and I had to use butter and serve it with vanilla ice cream. That was one of the rarest times since February that I allowed myself to have dairy. No biggie, I thought.
But within hours, my digestive system was disrupted, making me realize for the Nth time that dairy products were not for me.

My dairy-free vow that started on the first day of Lent has brought me nothing but joy and health. My skin is clear and glowing, my body has shrunk by at least three kilos, and my overall physical appearance has improved. I even have more energy. I don't pant anymore. I feel lighter. And there is less mucus in my body.

If this all sounds gross to you, I'm sorry. But going dairy-free is probably one of the best health decisions I have ever made in my life. Sure, I can break my own rule once in a while, but I suffer from the consequences, and that's even more reason to quit it altogether.

Go dairy-free. No skinny lattes. No frozen yogurt. No parmesan shavings on your salad. Just quit it and live happily ever after, smiling in a bikini and looking ten years younger.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Yup, I came up with the quote. Also made the poster without using Photoshop or Paint. And yes, the whole point of this is to inspire you and keep you going. You're welcome.

DISAPPOINTED

Yup. I guess that's the word to describe how I am feeling right this moment.
How would you feel if your sister got kicked out of college?
I have funded her education since her high school years.
I attended her high school graduation ceremony last year with my head held high, proud to be the big sister of a bright and outgoing young woman who knew what she wanted in life and had ways to get it.
So finding out that she had been dismissed by her college after completing her first year and a summer course broke my heart into a million little pieces.
My sister isn't stupid. I know that. She outsmarts me and my mother all the time.
She is lazy. She doesn't give a hoot about getting an education and she certainly doesn't think about all the other young girls in the world who could only pray to have enough money to attend a decent school.
Why do we all go to school, and strive to finish university?
We all want a better future. We all want to have careers.
We want to make empowered professional choices, so that we don't beg employers to hire us, or be forced to wait tables or clean toilets, or marry a rich but evil man.
And yet my sister is oblivious to all this, despite the fact that it's all I ever talk to her about.
So now she wants to go to fashion school.
Now she wants to start anew, and has promised me that once she is enrolled again, she will never ever ever take her studies for granted.
I appreciate she has to study something she loves so her attention won't stray.
But I really hope that my sister as staying power to last four years to be able to say she has obtained a degree.
A four-year course is a four-year course, whether one is learning about numbers, plants or fabrics.
I know that I have doubts about my sister's sincerity about wanting to study so badly.
But here I am, giving her another chance, as awesome big sisters do.
It's hard, sooo hard to think that everything is going to be okay.
That my sister will shape up and learn her lesson and tread the path to a successful career eventually.
It's even harder to think that she believes or listens to me.
I just hope that the way I expressed my disappointment - all those words I carelessly hurled at her and the disgusted look on my face as a reaction to her indolence - will not taint her appetite to try again.
I am very hard on her not because I want to feel powerful, but because I want her to look up to me.
I desperately want her to find out how I experienced university life and how I managed to build a career.
But for now, I hope she freaking finds a school.
